SHILLONG: Hundreds of forefront leaders from the regional United Democratic Party (UDP) and the Congress have shifted allegiance to National People’s Party (NPP) at Warsan Lyngdoh, South West Khasi Hills (SWKH).
The NPP under the leadership of Marshall Diengngan, chief organizer of the party, Ranikor Block and SS Lyngdoh, secretary have succeeded to sway the people to the rhythm of NPP in the district by distributing forms to 13 polling stations.
The two leaders have also formed new units at Wahkaji, Umsaw, Nongtynniaw, New Nongtyngnger, Nongbah Jynrin, Pyndemumjaraiñ, Nongmalang, Nongrynniaw, Mawjai, Nongummer, Phlangdiloiñ and Langpa.
Some of the new NPP functionaries include Cornelius Nongtnger from Nongmalang who hold the post of president from Congress Nongmalang Village Unit, Headingwell L Langrin, a UDP supporter from Wahkaji, Porter Myrthong, UDP supporter from New Mawjai, Kitboklang Nongsiang, secretary of UDP Nongrynniang Village Unit and Batsman Nonglang, secretary of UDP from New Nongtnger.
At a meeting held to form the news units, SS Lyngdoh announced that Diengngan, would be the NPP aspirant from, Ranikor Constituency against sitting Congress MLA Martin Danggo, and urged for people for their support.
Diengngan was previously a UDP ticket aspirant from Ranikor. However, the ticket went to Pius Marwein from Ranikor.
