GUWAHATI: An angry mob on Thursday attacked a police station in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district following the death of a local teenager in an alleged fake encounter by the CRPF early on Thursday.

A tenth standard student, Ranga Gaur, was found shot dead in a paddy field early this morning by villagers near Dalmara police station.

Police claimed that he was a militant and was killed in an encounter by the CRPF in the wee hours on Thursday. But the villagers refused to accept it and claimed that Ranga was not involved with any militant outfit.

His family said Ranga had woken up early as he was preparing for his board exams and claimed that he was shot dead by the CRPF personnel in front of the house and the body was later dumped in the paddy field.

A crowd gathered in front of the Dalmara police station in the morning and went on the rampage, pelting stones at the police station and passing vehicles.

The Superintendent of Police, who had rushed to the spot, was injured in the mob attack along with a couple of other policemen.

A few police as well as private vehicles were also damaged. The mob was finally pacified after the SP’s assurance of inquiring into the incident and bringing the guilty CRPF personnel to book. (UNI)
