SHILLONG: In a new twist to the dispute over the dissolution of KHNAM, the party’s rebel group led by general secretary Pyndapborthiaw Saiborne has stated that the party would re-emerge even after it is dissolved.

Following their meeting with State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) P Naik on Thursday, Saiborne, who led the dissident group during the meeting, said that they have been made to understand that they can always register a new political party under the name ‘KHNAM’ even though the original party is dissolved.

“But we have to wait for some time after the party is dissolved before we are allowed to register a new party under the same name,” Saiborne said.

Saiborne also claimed that the CEO had said that even the name ‘APHLC’ can be used again since the name of a party is not anyone’s personal property.

Saiborne also said that they have been suggested by the CEO to directly write to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India, SY Quraishi on their opposition to the proposed UDP-KHNAM merger.

Saiborne informed that the CEO was briefed on how the KHNAM General Council meeting had been manipulated to effect the dissolution decision.

Interestingly, the KHNAM general secretary appealed to KHNAM president Paul Lyngdoh and other party leaders to come back to the party fold and to reconsider their decision of merging with the UDP.
