SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will wait for the inquiry into the education scam to be over before deciding on whether to drop then Education Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, who is also part of the present Cabinet.
Speaking to reporters, Sangma said the whole exercise was on as to what would be the further course of action as far as the ruling of the High Court is concerned.
“The court order has a lot of ramifications and they have to be examined from the perspectives of legal, constitutional and principal of natural justice,” Sangma said.
According to the chief minister, the ruling affects all categories of teachers appointed after the whole recruitment process. “Therefore, the government is examining all these angles based on which, further course of action will be decided,” he said.
To a question, the chief minister said the issue of dropping a minister is also linked to the outcome of the case in the context of the alleged involvement of the minister concerned.
“We have to wait for the outcome of the ruling of the High Court. This case does not confine to the High Court alone. It had gone to the Supreme Court as well and it has been there for some time. We have decided to wait,” the chief minister said.
Sangma said though there are allegations, the ultimate findings of the whole investigation and pronouncement of judgment should be the guiding principle and “that is the stand I had taken from day one”.
“We have taken a conscious stand that the whole process of law and its culmination will be the guiding principle to decide on any issue, including the matter related to any member of the Cabinet,” Sangma said.
