James questions vast difference in funding for festivals in state

TURA: The opposition chief whip in the state assembly and Dadenggre MLA, James Pangsang K Sangma, has questioned the state government’s large scale funding for mega events while less amount is allocated for traditional festivals.
While addressing the Wangala celebrations at Asananggre on Friday, James pointed out that the Meghalaya government spent Rs 91 lakh last year on the Cherry Blossom Festival and this time the amount had crossed a crore.
“While such a huge amount is spent on the Cherry Blossom Festival, only Rs 25 lakh was released for Khasi, Jaintia and Garo traditional festivals. I would appeal to the government to provide equal funding to traditional celebrations also,” said the MLA while expressing his displeasure over the large scale difference in the funding pattern.
