Children’s Day: SPARK says Happy B’day to all kids

SHILLONG: Children’s Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm across the state on Tuesday.
The SPARK organised a special programme for the underprivileged and deprived children. This was an initiative where SPARK brought together school goers, rag pickers, child labourers and domestic workers, street dwellers, in paddy field and slum dwellers to celebrate the day without any difference.
The programme was jointly organised by SPARK, Hamro Swabhiman (Our Pride) Trust and Margeretian Alumni Association.
The programme started with a rally on the theme ‘Clean City, Green City — Our Responsibility’ whereby around 250 underprivileged children participated.
The chief guest at Lady Hydari Park was Meena Kharkongor, Chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. Sr Marina Thomas, Principal of St Margaret’s Higher Secondary School, was the special guest. Children from Pongkung Village, Anjali slum, Mawlong, Mawlynrei and Rangmen participated.
The Border Security Force, Meghalaya Frontier celebrated Children’s Day at the BSF Primary School, Umpling camp. Naimuddin, DIG (mentor of BSF Primary School), Wajid Ali, DIG (Operation) and Umesh Kumar Nayal, DIG/PRO inaugurated the programme.
Others who attended the programme were the orphans from William Lewis Boys Home in Mawlilong.
On the other hand, the members of New Colony Welfare Association, Shillong, a socio-cultural organisation, visited Shillong Academy Secondary School in Laitumkhrah, and distributed sweets and gifts to the students of lower classes on Tuesday.
Dwar Jingkyrmen and its inclusive section, Stonyland Primary School, celebrated Children’s Day by organising sports and games sponsored by the East Khasi Hills District Sports Promotion Society Scheme.
The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) also celebrated the day as part of its “Connecting to serve” campaign which was held in at Police Training School, Mawroh .
