TURA: Former chief of the GHADC executive committee Denang T Sangma has demanded the resignation of Boston Marak, the current chief executive member, over non-payment of pending salary of the district council employees.
Denang also said the “most painful” part was that Boston offered Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 lump sum to employees.
“If this is the condition what will happen to the school going children of the employees,” he added.
On the eve of the high court hearing on November 15, the Congress-led executive committee headed by Boston had offered an advance payment of Rs 5,000 to each employee and elected MDC and Rs 3,000 to muster roll workers. But the non-gazetted employees’ union rejected the proposal.
Later, during the court hearing the council sought three more weeks to clear the dues.
In the last week of October, the council had asked for two weeks’ time.
Denang demanded that the Boston-led executive committee should pay the salary in December.
The employees are working without salary for around 14 months.
Denang had earlier criticised the current executive committee for failing to pay salary.
To this, Boston had clarified saying the district council was making efforts to clear the pending dues of employees and are finding ways to tide over the financial crisis.
Denang said the people of Garo Hills supported the Congress but the party did not live up to their expectations.
He also said that during his tenure as CEM, he had engaged Hyderabad Centre for Good Governance to bring reforms in all departments of the council.
