Flights from Umroi to NE states likely from Dec 15

SHILLONG: The much-awaited launch of regional air connectivity from Umroi airport to other airports in the Northeast is likely to begin on December 15.
The initiative is under Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme of the Centre.
Shillong airport director MK Nayak said Air Deccan has given a tentative date of December 15 to start services from the airport.
Air Deccan will use 20-seater aircraft to connect state capitals in the Northeast. He also said the airport has the requisite infrastructure for the services to begin.
According to the scheme, flights from Umroi airport will be connected to five destinations in the North East — Agartala, Aizawl, Dimapur, Imphal and Silchar.
Air Deccan will carry out the air service with incentives from both the Centre and the state government at funding pattern of 90:10.
The fare per passenger is capped at Rs 2,500.
