SHILLONG: A group of organisations, church leaders and senior citizens have objected to BJP national spokesperson Nalin Kohli’s remark that Aadhaar will help in weeding out ghost beneficiaries saying that it “belittled” their protests and understanding of the matter.
In a statement to the media on Monday, various organisations and students’ groups, including the Garo Students’ Union, said Aadhaar, “in real sense”, has been introduced “for the sole purpose of surveillance of innocent citizens taking everyone to be a criminal, impostor who earns his daily bread by impersonating somebody from the lists of intended beneficiaries”.
They also questioned why the Centre was forcing non-beneficiaries of welfare schemes and PDS to enroll for Aadhaar.
“If Aadhaar was meant for getting rid of ghost beneficiaries as alleged by Nalin Kohli, then why this Aadhaar is stripping innocent nationals off all the rights,” they asked.
Talking about demonetisation, the groups said the move was to dig out money launderers but till date not a single black money holder has been punished.
