SHILLONG: Tura MP and president of the National People’s Party Conrad Sangma said on Monday the Congress’s confidence level “is definitely low” following the exit of senior leaders from the 2018 race.
Sangma, who was in the city, said it seemed the “demoralised” Congress has accepted defeat.
“When their senior does not have confidence, how will the common public have confidence in them,” Sangma said.
Responding to a query about Congress leaders joining NPP, he said, “The decision depends on them as it is their individual call and they will join at an appropriate time.”
Asserting that NPP has started its poll groundwork, Conrad said the party is following certain procedures before releasing its third list of candidates for the Assembly polls.
“There is some time for polls and we are following some procedures before releasing the third list,” he added.
Senior leaders from the Congress like Prestone Tynsong, Rowell Lyngdoh and others have already decided to leave the Congress and join NPP.
