SHILLONG: A coal trader, who was abducted by a militant organization at Wardro Village, West Khasi Hills, has been rescued by a group youths.
The coal trader was rescued while the abductors were taking him to a solitary place on Saturday. Though it was earlier believed that the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) was involved in the abduction, but police sources confirmed that there is no specific information about GNLA’s involvement in it.
“We are investigating the matter but as of now there is no specific information about GNLA’s involvement,” said a police source on Monday.
The rebels abducted the coal trader from the Shallang Coal Belt area of the district, the source said adding that armed rebels abandoned the trader when the youths who were guarding the area stopped them.
