CM for developing Synod Mihngi worship site

SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has called for developing Lum Swai, the site for public worship during the annual meeting of the KJP Synod Mihngi.
Speaking at a reception meeting at Tynring Presbyterian Higher Secondary School after inspecting the site, Sangma said the site where the annual meeting will be held can be developed so that it can support a large congregation.
The meeting next year will be held at Tynring on March 15-18.
Sangma who, along with Mawryngkneng MLA David Nongrum, visited the site on Wednesday, said if the place is developed, the Shnong can manage it, besides it will have collateral benefits for the people of Tynring. He also said officers from various line departments are working at maintaining the time line and with these interventions from the government for the KJP Synod 2018, there are other collateral benefits for the area. Expressing happiness at the venue, the chief minister said it is in itself extraordinary with the beautiful natural landscape.
“Shillong is faced with the challenge of having open space where a large gathering can take place,” he said. “The Shnong of Tynring can plan to have an infrastructure that can enable to host a large congregation or gathering in the years to come,” he added.
Sangma inspected the approach road under construction and urged authorities concerned to expedite the work since the meeting is only three months away
Earlier, officials from PHE, PWD (Roads) and MeECL also briefed the gathering on the interventions and the works taken by the departments and the progress in preparation for the forthcoming Synod meeting.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner PS Dkhar, pastors from KJP Synod Mihngi, Laitumkhrah Presbytery and members of the Dorbar Shnong, Tynring, were also present.
During the meeting, the local residents also lauded the local MLA David Nongrum for taking the initiative to apprise the Chief Minister about the necessary works being done in the area for the annual meeting.
Nongrum later said the village will soon have PA system for making important announcements, besides solar street light like it has been done in many other villages.
