SHILLONG: Former KHNAM MLA, Lambor Malngiang who will contest the Assembly polls from Nongkrem as an Independent candidate has cried lack of development in the constituency.
Speaking to media persons here on Friday, Malngiang said, “It is sad to see no development activities in the constituency.”
Stating that preparations for the elections have been continuous throughout the five years, he said the idea is to have free education for underprivileged families since there are a large number of people who drop out from their studies as they cannot afford education.
In addition, the former MLA and MDC also stressed the need to set up good colleges in Nongkrem constituency, saying it has become a problematic exercise for students to travel to colleges in the town because of the ever increasing traffic snarls.
The former MLA also called for creating self employment avenues since many qualified youths in the constituency work as farmers besides supplementing them with proper roads and better electricity supply.
Asked about Nongkrem considered a stronghold for HSPDP, Malngiang said he did not consider anyone strong or weak as people are the best judge.
“Looking at the style and functioning of the MLA, I have nothing much to say but let people give their judgement,” he told reporters.
He further claimed that trends have changed in the constituency in the past ten years and people will make their own judgement as to whom they should elect.
Nongkrem is set to witness a multi-cornered contest between HSPDP’s Ardent Basaiawmoit, NPP’s HS Shylla, Congress’s John F Kharshiing as well as Malngiang.
