SHILLONG: The perennial problem of traffic congestion in Shillong city is far from over and Saturday was yet another example of it with long queues of vehicles fighting hard to inch forward.
Some people plying in the local taxi said that it took them almost an hour to reach Lumdiengjri from Barik point around 2 pm when traffic congestion was at its worst.
It is said that the vehicular snarls have suddenly risen as people are currently shopping for Christmas. With the much awaited Christmas Day, the coming weeks are likely to witness further long queues of vehicles on the streets of Shillong.
Usually, Shillong witnesses heavy traffic congestions on Saturday and it is more so along the route from IGP Point to Police Bazar as Police Bazar is the main commercial hub of the town.
It is in this backdrop of heavy road congestions that the traffic police has decided to come shortly out with new regulations. As measures to ease the traffic conditions, a spacious parking place would be created at Khyndailad.
