Patna: Bihar has witnessed a steep rise in the smuggling and circulation of fake Indian currency notes this year with the police having already seized notes with a face value of Rs 41.40 lakh so far.
The figure this year is far more than the corresponding period in 2010 when notes of a face value of Rs 18.69 lakh were recovered, a senior police official said.
“Circulation of FICN in the state has become a challenge for the state police, but the situation is not so alarming. We want to take more deterrent measures to curb it,” he said.Following a tip off, fake notes of a face value of Rs 20 lakh in denomination of Rs 1,000 was seized by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence sleuths on Dec 2 from a bus in East Champaran district, sources said.
