TURA: Villagers of Mallangkona under West Khasi Hills have expressed disappointment over the poor service provided by the BSNL tower located at Siminaguri Village in the area which has persisted for almost a year now.

A local leader, Anthony M Sangma has blamed the negligence of the concerned authorities for the poor service, which has failed to rectify the problem despite repeated complaints being made.

“Earlier, we were happy that the tower was being set up in the area and many people from Meghalaya and even Assam had availed of connections. However, our joy was short lived as the tower has remained non-functional for over a year now,” Sangma said.

According to Sangma the tower is not equipped with a good generator to keep it running during power cuts and completely shuts down whenever electricity is cut off. The old generator kept for the purpose is damaged and unusable and authorities have not done anything to replace it with a new one, Sangma claimed.

Meanwhile, Sangma on behalf of other villagers have urged other telecom companies to set up their towers in the area to challenge the existing BSNL tower.
