TURA: Ignorance is not always bliss as the revered church elders will tell us. Too fond of merry-making, the epicureans seem to have forgotten that the essence of Christmas lies in celebrating the birth of the savior and not indulging in mindless activity which of late has become the order of the day in many parts of the world.
Over the years, and with the arrival of social media outlets, X’mas wishes are replacing Christmas greetings, be it on greeting cards, mobile SMSes or WhatsApp.
Even though X’mas has become part of everyday parlance a little bit of acquaintance with the meaning of Christmas would tell us that there was nothing called ‘X’mas’ since the name of the Saviour is missing. There can be no Christmas without Christ.
