SHILLONG: The Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP) is in talks with  four to five  sitting legislators to  pursue them to   join the party.

Hek while asserting that the  party was  well prepared for the elections further added that the BJP might contest in  all the 60  Assembly seats in the forthcoming polls in the State

According to Hek, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi   would also campaign in   all the three region of the state while other central ministers and regional leaders of the party   would also campaign  for party in the state.

The BJP leader also defended the delay in the announcement of the candidates saying candidates would be announced after the Central Election Committee finalises the names.

Responding to queries, he reiterated that isolated cases of   atrocities on minorities that took place in different parts of the country was the handiwork of anti-social elements and BJP cannot be blamed for it.

He also denied that he had ever termed BJP as a communal party and added that they left Congress due to the misrule of the Congress leaders.

When asked if they were opportunists, he said, “You can go anywhere to serve the people in a better way.”

Earlier, former South Shillong MLA, Sanbor Shullai too defended the party saying the BJP had three sitting legislators in Meghalaya at one point of  time and there was not tension in the society, in fact, everything was peaceful in the state. “All faiths in Meghalaya live peacefully,” he added.
