POSCO court awards 3 years RI to rape accused

SHILLONG: A POSCO court has convicted one person with Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) for three years for committing sexual assaulting on a minor girl in West Jaintia Hills.

West Jaintia Hills SP, Vivek Syiem said that on May 22, 2015, an FIR was filed at Jowai police station by the mother of an eleven-year-old girl residing in West Jaintia Hills District, that her daughter had been raped the previous day by one 20- year-old Wanmi Lyngdoh,

  The case was registered U/S 4 POCSO Act 2012 and the case was investigated by the O/C Women PS West Jaintia Hills, WPSI O. Tyngkan (now Inspector) and   she submitted her chargesheet on August 3, 2015.

The case was tried in the Court of Noor-Ain Khan (MHJS), Special Judge (POCSO) Jowai.

On January 15, this year, the judgement was delivered and   Wanmi Lyngdoh, who is a resident of Muthlong village, was convicted for Sexual Assault under Section 8 of POCSO Act, 2012 for a period of three years of Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 1,000 and in default of payment of fine, the convict will further undergo simple imprisonment for one month.
