SHILLONG: The supporters and members of the BJP, North Shillong Mandal, have decided to leave the party, citing unhappiness at the ‘haphazard and unplanned way’ the party is being run in the state.
In a statement, the ex-BJP president, North Shillong Mandal, W O Thangkhiew alleged on Sunday that the party is being run by certain people, who do not seem to be worried about the welfare of the party but appear to have more personal interests.
According to him, the BJP in its early years was genuinely concerned about its image and projected a clean, secular and development based profile, but the true picture is slowly emerging of only a front to give assurance to the people but having other hidden agenda.
Those who quit the party include district president of Shillong City and a State Executive Member, Keith A Pariat and members of North Shillong Mandal, Thangkhiew (President), Sunshine Warjri (Treasurer), William Marbaniang (Executive Member), Raja Jyrwa (BJYM Vice President), Shishir Shahoo (Member Shillong City), Edwin Wahlang (Member Shillong City), Bakor Sawian (Vice President Booth Committee) and a host of followers and supporters .
“Those who resigned from the party expressed insecurity over the turn of events which may affect their food habits, free practice of their religious choice and suppression of their cultural practices”, Thangkhiew said.
He said that the members who resigned, have not decided the future course of action.
