Workshop on Disaster Management in Kohima

KOHIMA: An ‘Orientation-cum-Workshop on Disaster Management’ for Deputy Commissioners of Nagaland has been held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall here.

Mr Raungmei in his presentation said NSDMA has set up five companies from ‘A’ coy of Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) as the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and two batches 9th and 14th Battalion of IRB have been trained at Central Training Institute (Home Guards and Civil Defense) to deal with disasters.

Deputy Commissioners of Kohima, Peren, Longleng and Mon and 10 Sub Divisional Officers, Extra Assistant Commissioners of other districts except Dimapur attended the programme.

Presentation on disaster management status was showed by all DCs through slide show and and the work being carried out in their own distric was shared. It may be mentioned that NSDMA was constituted in the year 2008 and made operational in January 2011 under the provision provided by disaster management Act 2005.

NSDMA is headed by the CM and a group of ministers as members with chief secretary as chief executive and commissioner/secretary of home and disaster management as member secretary. NSDMA office has been set up in all 11 districts of Nagaland and at the district headquarters headed by one nodal officer appointed by the authority. (UNI)
