SHILLONG: Congress’s Ampareen Lyngdoh said on Wednesday she was a committed party worker and would not mind sitting on the opposition bench.
Speaking to media persons after filing the nominations, the minister said, “I am a committed Congress worker and have faith in my party. I am proud of my leader Rahul Gandhiji and I will always be with the Congress.”
Lyngdoh, while downplaying anti-incumbency, said it was common for any person who is contesting the election for the fourth time. She contested the election first time in 2008 on UDP ticket and the next two as Congress candidate.
“If at all there is an anti-incumbency factor, it will account for the 1 per cent where we could not reach out because I have 40 localities in my constituency and taking care of each one in five years is always the biggest challenge,” she said and added that she could deliver 99 per cent of what her constituents requested her to do.
Asked about other political parties, Lyngdoh said, “We are not looking at our contenders. We are preparing our own elections. We will give it our best shot. We will try to have a bigger margin on the date of the announcement of the results… Parties come and go; Congress is here to stay in my constituency.”
The Congress leader urged voters to exercise their franchise to avoid low polling turnout.
She recalled the contributions of her father, late Peter G. Marbaniang, and her brother RG Lyngdoh who have served people of the constituency for four decades.
