SHILLONG: The Leader of the Opposition in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Mansturdy Nongrem voiced his dissent over convening the KHADC session on February 28, a day after the elections.
It deserves mention that the Assembly polls will be held on February 27 in which, except one or two, almost all the MDCs are contesting.
Speaking to reporters, Nongrem said, “It seems that the session is just a formality. Members of the KHADC are busy in their respective constituencies. Even though I will not contest the elections, yet I still have got work to do.” He added that KHADC members will not have time to prepare for the session as they are busy preparing for the elections.
Nongrem criticised the KHADC chief executive member, PN Syiem arguing that he has failed the indigenous people and there are many issues that need to be discussed in the Council.
“He (Syiem) is scared that he may lose the elections and the CEM seat. So his intention is to convene the session on February 28. Why not convene it after the elections are declared?” Nongrem asked. He added that, as per rule, the next session should be held on February 12.
