BJP candidate needs
police protection
JOWAI: BJP candidate, Lakhon Biam of Nangbah village under 30 Raliang Constituency informed that he need police protection as he had been informed that many supporters from other party has threatened him with dire consequences. The candidate has also urged the Election Office, West Jaintia Hills to declare all poling stations under Nangbah village, Kyndong Tuber village and Shangpung villages as venerable and most critical polling stations so that there will be a fair election.
LJP aims for ‘clean governance’
SHILLONG: The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) candidate from Mawlai, Donlang Nongbri, said the party aimed to bring clean governance and development. In a statement issued here, Nongbri said the party aimed to bring laws and policies that would protect the indigenous people.
Development committee formed
TURA: Residents of Sepoy Colony in Tura have formed a development committee and appointed office bearers. The new committee will be led by Mitison D Sangma as president, Terak M Sangma and Purno Hajong as vice presidents, Babul A Sangma as secretary.
KHNAM Shella unit rally

SHILLONG: The Shella unit of the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) will hold a public meeting at the community hall of Pdengshnong Sohra on Friday. The party has fielded eight candidates for the Assembly elections.
Seminar on International Mother Tongue Day
TURA: The A’chik Literature Society (ALS), in collaboration with Department of Garo at NEHU Tura, will organise a seminar on February 17 at Christian Girls’ Higher Secondary School here on the occasion of International Mother Tongue Day. International Mother Tongue Day is observed every year on February 21 but the seminar is being held in advance for convenience of participants. Different scholars will present brief papers on various aspects of the A’chik language. Some speakers include Dokatchi Ch Marak, Basan R Marak, Cassie Neelam M Momin, Dorothy R Marak and Bilnang Sangma. The programme will be held from 10 am to 2pm.
