SHILLONG: The Assistant Director and Head of India, European Union (EU) and China marketing and recruitment, Bedfordshire University, Luton, United Kingdom (UK), Nicolae Pavel highlighted on the opportunities available for students from the North Eastern part of India to study in the UK.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Pavel said, “Unfortunately, I don’t have applications from the North Eastern region in the University of Bedfordshire. This year the British Council has 70 full scholarships for female students from the North East.”
However, he expressed concern that the University does not have candidates. “The reason is because this sort of information has not penetrated to this area,” he said.
Pavel informed the British Council about his links with the North East and told the Council that he will try to organise something to disseminate information about the educational opportunities in the North East.
He said that he went on a tour of various cities in India and to create interests in students to study in the UK, and here in the North East, he found that students are bright but lack knowledge.
Stating that he has special scholarships for students of the North East, he said that he has five scholarships of 50 per cent of tuition fee which is based on merit.
“I am ready to offer this sort of scholarship to deserving students for Master programmes to come and study in the UK and planning to do more activities here,” Pavel said.
The University of Bedfordshire has a recorded history of 136 years as an educational institution and offers a wide range of courses like business computing, engineering, art and design, media, sports, bio-medicals and nursing.
“International students are also allowed to work 20 hours a week and can work full-time during holidays and the minimum salary is £ 8 (Rs 718.92 approx) an hour. Medical is free which is a very big advantage. They need to pay £150 when they apply for visa,” Pavel said.
Speaking of employability, he said that most of the universities have an employment rate of over 90 per cent in which students who graduate within 6 months will have a 90 per cent employment rate.
