SHILLONG: The Trinamool Congress candidate from South Tura, Bernard N Marak has taken exception to candidates resorting to threat and false propaganda ahead of polls.
In a statement on Wednesday, Marak said that voting is a secret choice of an individual which cannot be known by anyone else except the voter. No candidate will be able to know the secret casting by voters, Marak said.
Marak alleged that some candidates are instilling fear in the minds of the voters by claiming that names of voters and symbols against which they voted will be texted to the candidates’ mobile which is totally false and an unfair means of luring votes.
People should not believe such lies and there should not be any cause for fear that their secret votes will be made known to the candidates’, Marak said.
“The votes are meant to be secret and it is a choice which is at the discretion of each voter. If candidates know about the voters and the candidates against whom the votes are cast on the day of voting, then the results would be out that day itself.”
“Some candidates are adopting such false tactics to get votes, this is utter lie and a corrupt practice”, Marak added.
