SHILLONG: In a major goof up,  a person reportedly cast a vote in North Shillong constituency in place of  the  real voter who could not cast her vote.

A woman, Rinku Paul reached the Jail Road Boys’ School to cast her vote but she got the surprise of her life when she was informed that she had already cast her vote.

“ When I went to sign  along with my EPIC, they told me that my vote has been already cast and I cannot cast my vote any more but I protested  then and there,” She told reporters

Later, she informed about the incident to BJP candidate, JA Lyngdoh and other BJP leaders who rushed to the spot.

JA Lyngdoh said that after finding about the incident, he had a word with the Deputy Commissioner and insisted that no person should be denied their right to vote and   accordingly, Deputy Commissioner directed the polling officers to allow the woman to cast her vote.

Chief Electoral Officer, FR Kharkongor however said that the matter has not been brought to his knowledge.
