NONGPOH: Three children have been rescued from a village in Ri Bhoi by a joint team of district officials and police.
Deputy Commissioner CP Gotmare said the children were rescued from Santipur village in Byrnihat.
Gotmare said the district administration got information from the police about missing children. Later it was informed about a huge gathering of people at Santipur. A magistrate was sent to find out what was going on.
“We do not know what exactly the reason was for the gathering… Details about the children were sought from the people there. But they said ‘Jesus had led them there and some of them were not revealing their names or identity’,” Gotmare said.
The DC said the three children were there without guardians. They were later taken to Byrnihat police station. The district administration and the police are trying to contact their parents.
The villagers also complained about illegal land occupation to which Gotmare said they should file a complaint.
He added that the district administration will look into the matter while “we do not want to infringe on anyone’s freedom of worship”.
To a query as to how many people were gathered there, Gotmare replied that he was still awaiting the report.
