Incomplete staff quarters delay heath centre operation

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Health Minister AL Hek said that Kashiabari Primary Health Center was not functional as construction of Doctors’ Quarters and staff quarters had not been completed as yet.

In response to questions raised in the House, the minister informed that recruitment to the PHC has been made to appoint the required staff in the said PHC.

In a reply to a supplementary question by Congress MLA Clement Marak, Hek said that the doctors’ quarters were constructed in 2007 and that contractors discontinued the work although several reminders were sent to resume the work.

Again, in reply to a query posed by Congress member, Zenith Sangma, Hek said that the project for the construction of the quarter was sanctioned in the December 2005.

 On being asked by Zenith, Hek informed that total amount sanctioned for the project was Rs 13, 65, 700 while the revised estimate was Rs 18, 45,000.

 Marak also asked Hek to clarify as to whether the recruitment of 4th grade was done through District Selection Committee (DSC) to which Hek replied that information has to be collected.
