SHILLONG: The traffic tangle on city roads is likely to be eased soon as the new government has stepped up measures and sought feedback from various line departments to control the menace.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday convened a meeting with the officials of the Police Department, the Urban Affairs and other line departments in presence of Home Minister James K Sangma to discuss the problem.
Conrad said during the meeting that the government was keen to “find out means and ways to address the growing traffic snarls in the city and hence all the line departments have been asked to give their feedback on how to ease the traffic”.
Sources said this was the first round of the meeting and another meeting would be held shortly after different departments come up with their suggestions.
It may be mentioned that Shillong police had earlier recommended that the state government engage a consultation firm to conduct a study and see what mechanism would be feasible in Shillong.
