Easter celebrations begin with midnight prayers

SHILLONG/TURA: Easter celebrations began across the state with midnight prayers and church services on Saturday.
The faithful took part in midnight Mass, besides renewing their commitment to lead a virtuous life.
The Easter celebrations will continue on Sunday with church services and prayers at various intervals.
In some parts of East Khasi Hills, Shad Paskha (Easter Dance) will be performed on Sunday.
Easter culminates the Holy Week which began on Palm Sunday.
Earlier on Friday, Christians across the state braved rain and wind to observe Good Friday by attending special church service.
In Tura, a thunderstorm accompanied by hailstorm snapped power ahead of the observance but failed to deter the spirits of the faithful.
At the Sacred Heart Shrine in Tura, Catholic faithful enacted the 14 Stations of the Cross to remember the last journey of Lord Jesus Christ to Mount Calvary where he was crucified on the cross by the Romans.
SPARK event
The underprivileged children at SPARK, a local NGO, prayed on Good Friday at different centres. The NGO’s Shima Modak spoke to the children stressing on the importance of the day and explaining them about Good Friday and Easter. The children later lit candles.
