SHILLONG: The state government is assessing the extent of damage caused by hailstorms and heavy rain in several parts of the state.
The additional chief secretary in charge of Revenue and Disaster Management, PW Ingty, said at present, the government is concentrating on distributing necessary relief materials to affected people.
“Some figures as far as number of damaged properties are likely to be received in a day or two,” he said.
Reports from North Garo Hills said that over 400 houses were damaged in many villages especially in the Gabil area of the district’ due to the hailstorm.
Earlier, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had convened an emergency meeting with his Cabinet colleagues and senior officials where he directed them to provide immediate temporary relief to affected villagers.
A preliminary report states that over 50 villages in different parts of the state have been affected due to severe hailstorm last week.
