JOWAI: One Phim Chyrmang (37) of Tuber-kmai shnong died on the way to hospital after she gave birth to a girl due to traffic jam on Friday.

Informing this, the Village Defense Party (VDP) president, Graham Lyngdoh said the woman developed some complications soon after the birth of the girl and her relatives took her to Jowai Hospital in an ambulance of the VDP.

It took the ambulance nearly two hours to reach Shohshrieh village, 3 kms from Tuber-kmai shnong. Due to heavy traffic, the vehicle could not proceed and the woman passed away at Shohshrieh village.

Traffic situation in Jaintia Hills has deteriorated after the imposition of “no entry for trucks” by the State Police.

On Friday, the National Highway 44 (Jowa-Badarpur road) witnessed gridlocks of vehicular traffic right from Mihmyntdu till Lad-Sutnga, a distance of about 35 km.

Prominent residents, NGOs and even senior police officials of Jaintia Hills have blamed the government for the present situation.
