State dilly-dally on appointment of DGP

SHILLONG: Time is running out for the state government to appoint the new DGP with the incumbent DGP set to retire at the end of this month and the State Security Commission yet to convene a meet to choose a name.
Home Minister James Sangma on Friday told reporters that they were discussing the matter.
Asked if the government would consider extending the service of the incumbent DGP, Sangma said a lot of factors have to be considered before taking a call on whether the incumbent DGP should carry on or an acting DGP should be appointed.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had, on Thursday, said that the state government has written to the judge of the High
Court of Meghalaya to forward the names of the members who are to be included in the State Security Commission.
