SHILLONG: UDP has demanded quick probe by the CBI into the education scam case involving Congress legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh.
In a statement on Sunday, the UDP Laitumkhrah-Malki Circle said there should be proper probe into “the most serious and sensational abuse of authority by people in power against the job seeking teachers, most of whose future have been ruined, so that truth and justice will prevail in the face of the ongoing imbroglio”.
Referring to the seizure of two hard discs from Lyngdoh’s computer by the CBI on Friday, UDP wanted to know whether there will be any material evidence left now relating to the teachers’ recruitment scam 2008-09.
“The then Education Minister (Lyngdoh) was never removed from the Cabinet but allowed to continue as a minister, apparently providing ample time and opportunity to destroy or tamper all evidence of the case, if one wishes to. Whereas in the case of the Haryana education scam during the corresponding years, Chief Minister OP Chautala and his son, who was then Education Minister are still in jail, on a 10-year imprisonment order of the court,” UDP said.
According to UDP, while Lyngdoh is maintaining her stark innocence on the issue, shifting all the blame on her own officers, how will the government reconcile the evidence given and still affirmed by the former Director Education, JD Sangma, “that it was at the minister’s instance, he and two of her trusted lieutenants tampered with the score sheets in her house and also in the official residence of Sangma”.
“Even though Lyngdoh rubbished Sangma’s claim, can there be any possible scope for her officers to dare tamper the score sheets and appoint candidates of their own choice,” UDP said.
“But interestingly, there have also been claims that many teachers had to dole out a high price to get the appointment, which goes out to provide a twin picture of not only a matter of political angle but an apparent money making affair too,” it added.
