SHILLONG: Four companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will be used for the smooth conduct of Ampati by-poll scheduled for May 28.
Chief Electoral Officer Frederick Kharkongor said on Friday that following a meeting with the police and election officers, the request for deployment of four companies of central forces was made before the Centre.
Out of the four, one company will be used during the counting of votes.
The observers and static surveillance team were notified and the model code of conduct came into effect, he said.
There is not much law and order problem in Ampati and since the constituency shares both inter-state and international border, security in the border is a priority, the official said.
As far as security in the inter-state border is concerned, the SP and the DC of South West Garo Hills will meet their counterparts in Hatsinghimari on Saturday.
Ampati has 39 polling stations and 28,673 voters.
