TURA: With barely three weeks away from the By-elections in Ampati, cash amounting to over four lakhs was on Saturday seized by the Static Surveillance Team along with police and district magistrates at Garodoba village in South West Garo Hills.

The election code of conduct which is already currently in place prohibits the carrying of cash beyond Rs 50 thousand at a time.

According to Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dikki D Shira, the team intercepted a vehicle at Garodoba village whereupon, a search revealed that it was carrying an amount of Rs 4,29,800/-.

“We seized the money from a VEC Secretary, who claims that the money is meant for MGNREGS funds. We are looking into the matter, and in any case, such huge amounts of money cannot be carried as the election code of conduct is in place,” Shira said.
