SHILLONG: The Block Congress Committee (BCC) of Williamnagar has petitioned the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on several Congress leaders campaigning against the official candidate of the party, Deborah Marak.
Marak was pushed to the third position in the Williamnagar poll as NPP candidate Marcuise Marak emerged the winner followed by Independent candidate Sengbath Marak.
A party source said on Sunday the complaint was against the president of East Garo Hills district Congress Committee Linderson A Sangma, former MDC Lahitson M Sangma and the newly elected Congress MLA from Tikrikilla constituency, Jimmy D Sangma, for campaigning for Independent candidate Sengbath. Moreover, there was no active support by CLP leader Mukul Sangma as he addressed only one meeting at the residence of Deborah.
When contacted, MPCC working president James Lyngdoh said he heard that BCC would be sending the complaint letter.
“We are yet to receive the complaint, and once we receive it, we will forward the same to the disciplinary committee,” Lyngdoh said.
According to him, the MPCC will go by certain procedures before taking action.
The party is likely to deal with the complaint within MPCC instead of apprising the AICC.
