JOWAI: The Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) said the government has taken advantage in the name of peace and surrender and the system is unreliable. In a statement to the media, HNLC public secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said Aiborlang Thongni who, along with his wife, surrendered on Sunday, was not well and underwent an operation last month.
“His (Thongni) decision to leave the organisation was very much with the knowledge of the organisation,” Nongtraw said.
Referring to the formation of GNLA, Nongtraw said, “Who formed the GNLA? Everyone knew that Sohan D Shira surrendered as the then area commander of ANVC. His decision to go back to the jungle only to form GNLA is more dangerous than ANVC in terms of peace and harmony in the state,” said HNLC.
“When such thing happened, who would dare to come and surrender before the government in the name of peace,” it added.
Nongtraw pointed out that a deputy superintendent of police, Champion Sangma, too was part of GNLA. “When the police officer… did not trust the ‘system’ of the government, one cannot expect HNLC cadres to trust the government who had time and again called us to surrender,” he said.
Stating that the strength of an organisation does not depend on the number of members, Nongtraw said, “If we want to disturb peace and tranquility in the state, only one or two of our dynamic members can do it if an order is given.”
On the peace talks, HNLC said the government invited for talks a hundred times but the outfit would come to the talk table when they think “the invitation is okay”.
“The observation of the anti-terrorism day is nothing but a formal function as the word terrorism itself is difficult to define…” HNLC stated and added that observation of anti-terrorism day in India “is illegal and criminalized”.
