SHILLONG: The army authorities have opened the pine walk area in the city to the public on Wednesday but some personnel are still restricting free movement of pedestrians.
A defence spokesperson said on Wednesday that opening of the route will ease the traffic snarl in the city.
However, during a visit, it was noticed that a lady inmate closed the gate prohibiting free passage of pedestrians though earlier some army personnel guarded the area.
Besides, the army is yet to open the road from Anjalee Cinema Hall, which ends near Shani Mandir in Police Bazar.
Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman recently asked the defence authorities to open the closed doors and even a petition is pending in the High Court of Meghalaya against the whimsical closure of roads in parts of city by the defence authorities.
