SHILLONG: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has vowed to double the rural and infrastructure development fund to Meghalaya from the present Rs 100 crore to Rs 200 crore.
The annual general meeting of NABARD was held here on Saturday.
Chairman of NABARD Harsh Kumar Bhanwala discussed issues pertaining to the state like agriculture and rural development, food processing, medicinal plant processing, besides others.
In addition, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had expressed his keenness on developing the hub and scope model to create storage space to export goods to Bangladesh and other South East Asian countries.
Later, the chief minister said they basically had detailed discussions on the activities of NABARD and how to take the ongoing schemes forward.
Discussions were also held on new schemes, which will be implemented in the state.
The initiatives of NABARD are aimed at building an empowered and financially inclusive rural India through specific goal-oriented departments which can be categorised broadly into three heads — financial, developmental and supervision.
