SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) CEM, PN Syiem feels that the current situation on the issue of Sweepers’ Lane calls for a need to hold discussion with office of Hima Mylliem and KHADC along with legal experts at the earliest.

It was on June 4 that the KHADC sought explanation from Syiem of Hima Mylliem wherein the Syiem of Hima Mylliem gave its report along with the documents to the KHADC on the issue of Sweepers Colony.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday after the Executive Committee meeting (EC), KHADC CEM PN Syiem said, “After going through all the papers submitted and furnished by the Syiem of Hima Mylliem, on the part of the EC, we felt it was necessary for the KHADC to have a discussion with the Syiem of Hima Mylliem along with legal experts.”

He added that status of the land with regard to Hima Mylliem and the position of Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) should be studied.

Syiem said it was a failure of the Hima Mylliem as it did not verify before issuing patta and it also did not seek the consent of the SMB.

It may be recalled that as per the Hima Mylliem,  it was found that the land at Sweepers’ Lane was given to the municipality board in two parts through an agreement signed in 1954.
