SHILLONG: Concerned by rising number of rape cases in the state, the State Social Welfare department would soon convene a meeting to discuss this menace prevailing in the society.
Informing this here recently, Social Welfare minister JA Lyngdoh said the department was taking seriously rise in the number of rape cases.
As per the statistics, 32 rape cases and 28 molestation cases were registered in East Khasi Hills district alone from January to September in 2011.
According to Lyngdoh, the meeting would be attended by the State Women’s Commission, police department and district administration.
