SHILLONG: To monitor the attendance of staff as well as to tighten up the security around the Secretariat, the State government is all set to introduce the Access Control System (ACS) in one of the most important offices in the city.
Informing this, the Secretariat Administration Department (SAD) minister JA Lyngdoh said, “At an initial stage we will introduce ACS at the Secretariat and later on in other offices as well.”
Once the system is installed, the employees of the Secretariat will have to punch their cards at the time of entry as well as at the time of exit from the Secretariat.
The State Secretariat is known for its staff extending their holiday at will, while coming late to work is a routine affair for many. The Secretariat is also known for thin attendance during and after festive season.
According to the minister, surprise room-to-room visits would also be conducted to ensure that all the employees perform their duties as per the fixed timings.
“We will take stringent action against those who do not adhere to timings fixed by the government,” he added.
Employees on most of the occasions are found to be either sitting idle or discussing ‘unofficial’ issues with their colleagues, sources said.
“I will take up the matter with the Chief Secretary shortly,” Lyngdoh said.
The State Government would take all necessary steps to ensure that employees maintain discipline in offices, he said adding that the SAD officials would be directed to conduct surprise visits to different offices.
