SHILLONG: Following the move of the NPP-led MDA Government to upgrade Ranikor Administrative Block into a Civil Sub-division, Mawsynram MLA H.M Shangpliang has now demanded upgradation of Mawsynram into a Civil Sub-division. “I have nothing to say if Ranikor is being upgraded into a Civil Sub-division, but the government must also consider Mawsynram as the Civil Sub-division,” Shangpliang said. He informed that the demand is long pending right from the time when M Kharshandi was the MLA. The MLA stated that the feasibility and survey exercise for upgrading Mawsynram into a Civil Sub-division was conducted recently and the government had stated in the Assembly that the demand will be considered.
Replying to a query on whether he would also join NPP if the demand is fulfilled, Shangpliang said the question of politics does not arise as his demand is for the benefit of the people. “The government cannot woo MLAs by saying that they will be given blocks or civil sub divisions,” he said and maintained that the files pertaining to the upgradation of Mawsynram as a Civil Sub-divisions is already in the Secretariat.
