Four held for demanding money from trucks

JOWAI: Amlarem police arrested four persons in the wee hours on Friday for demanding money from truck drivers in Amlarem and Leshka area.
According to the police, around 2:30am information was received that there were a group of men roaming in a tourist taxi (ML04C-5676) in Jowai – Amlarem road and were checking vehicles especially trucks.  
A police officer informed that he along with his staff rushed to the spot and apprehended four men namely Damut Bang (38) from Mukhla, Wadahun Suchiang (28) from Raliang, Thermalki Susngi (27) from Nartiang and Pyndapbor Rymbai (30) from Nartiang.
“They were conducting checking of trucks and it was suspected that the group was extorting money from trucks in the guise of checking for smuggled cattle”, he added. 
It is also believed that the same group has been conducting checking of trucks in this region including in Leskha and demanded money from truckers.
The group was brought to Amlarem police station and booked under section 110 of Meghalaya Police Act and will be produce before court.
One of the arrested persons namely Wandahun claims to be a member of an NGO called the Confederation of Ri Jaintia Movement.
During the struggle to arrest another member namely Pyndapbor Rymbai who was in an inebriated state fell and sustained sustain minor injuries .
He was taken to Nongtalang CHC where first aid was administered.
