SHILLONG: NPP has made it clear that the political developments in KHADC and JHADC will not have any bearing on the NPP-led MDA government.
While the Congress MDCs have extended support to the executive committee led by PDF leader and KHADC CEM, P.N Syiem, in Jaintia Hills, the NPP and Congress are coming together.
Chief minister Conrad Sangma and deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong downplayed the political development in both the councils.
Sangma said a combination of rival political parties does occur in politics.
Asked about the Congress-NPP striking an alliance in the JHADC, Sangma cited the example of BJP and Congress in the Chakma Council.
“The elected MDCs take a call and it is up to them. We want to ensure that there is stability and respective councils perform so that development reaches the people,” he told reporters.
According to him, the MDCs, who are elected, will decide on the combination, which is a decision taken at the council level and the members exercise their autonomy.
“Last time, UDP had also formed the executive committee with Congress. The MDCs felt there is a need for change and that is why they are going for that and we cannot interfere,” Sangma said.
Tynsong said that developments in KHADC and JHADC will not affect the MDA government.
Congress leader P.T Sawkmie said the Congress MDCs supported the KHADC CEM since the council would be able to find a solution to the ongoing problem related to Harijan Colony.
