SHILLONG: NEIGRIHMS Resident Doctors Association has deferred the proposed 72-hour protest following an assurance from the institute director during a meeting on Monday to solve all the problems in the institute.
The cardiology department reported normal activities on Tuesday.
In a letter to the director on Tuesday, the association said that they expect him to expeditiously resolve the issues with NEHU and revoke the order of quarter cancellation.
“We expect positively from you to communicate to us in writing the resolutions passed in the meeting within the next two days so that we can call off our protest. It is also pertinent to mention that during the protest period of cardiology residents, they have made every possible effort not to allow a single patient to suffer and we expect from you that you would send a letter of appreciation to the department of cardiology for their candid and enlightened approach towards the problems,” the letter said.
The association said that the director’s apology to the department of cardiology was a welcome move in the larger interest of the institute and has paved the path for discussion and an amicable solution.
The letter said the director had promised that he would be rescheduling the examination dates and streamlining the examination process in accordance with the laid down procedures and any change if required would only be implemented from future batches of students.
The director also promised in the meeting he would take all necessary measure and that due to rescheduling of the examination, the tenure for senior residency of cardiology residents would be extended for reasonable time so as to enable them to recover their pace of study and appear in the examination in a conducive environment.
