MLCU organises musical on Circle of Beats and Rhythm

Shillong: Shillong reverberated with rhythms and beats of melodious sounds when the students and faculty of the Department of Music, Martin Luther Christian University took to the stage on the evening of June 27, 2018 and performed in the musical performance titled Ha Jylli ki Khriang at the U Soso Tham Auditorium Hall.
The literal translation of the performance is The Circle of Rhythms, named so because the particular performance is a melting pot of the different genres.
The main objective of this performance is to provide a platform for students from both post graduate and graduate classes to showcase their skills and technicalities that they have learnt throughout the semester.
“This musical performance is a part of their curriculum which gives the studies the confidence they can showcase their creativity and originality in music. This sort of showcase can also help our students to been seen by potential employers, like music studios etc.”, informed the HoD of the Department, Dr. Mebanlamphang Lyngdoh.
On this day the department also released a music album, with original music by the faculty and the students. The album was released by O. Slong, Manager, Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank. The bank was a major sponsor of the production.
Among those in attendance in the audience were Vice Chancellor of the University Dr. V.T Darlong, representatives from the Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank and former VC of MLCU R.G Lyngdoh, besides others.
The students performed songs from different genres which included Indian, Western and Traditional Music from across the North East.
Performers included students from different departments of the University who had taken Music as one of their Minor papers. They performed Indian Classical numbers and were accompanied on the Tabla by M.P Bora, Faculty of the Department of Music, St. Anthony’s College, Shillong.
