Man kidnaps, murders ex-wife’s brother in WJH

JOWAI/ SHILLONG: A nine-year-old boy was allegedly kidnapped from Umjalisiew village in West Jaintia Hills, brutally murdered by his brother-in-law and dumped in a village in Assam, police said.
West Jaintia Hills SP, Vivek Syiem said the minor was kidnapped on Tuesday by his brother-in-law, Shiningstar Pala, 19, and the matter was informed at Saitsama outpost the next day.
Syiem said the child was taken towards Karbi Anglong in Assam and the accused, Pala along with Pynchemi Phawa (26), the driver of the tourist cab (ML04 C 4532) were arrested on Wednesday.
Based on the leads provided by the main accused, Pala, the police recovered the body of the child at Laher village in West Karbi Anglong.
Sources informed that Pala, a resident of Wahiajer village, West Jaintia Hills had brutally murdered the child by way of strangulation and slitting his throat. Later they took his body to Karbi Anglong and dumped it in a jungle at Laher village.
The weapon (dao) used in the murder and another car taken by the accused persons have been seized.
Police have registered a case at Nartiang police station.
Pala, who has several criminal cases against him, committed the murder over a personal issue with his ex-wife as the victim was her brother, sources said..
“Investigation will be taken up vigorously to take it to its logical conclusion,” Syiem added.
